Dental Veneers Belmont, Geelong

Would you like to improve your smile? Dental veneers are an affordable and quick way to give you the smile you have always wanted. Veneers are also a great alternative to crowns in many situations. Requiring little or no anesthetic in most cases, veneers are a brilliant way to hide discoloured teeth, brighten and generally improve your smile.

Veneer teeth are a bit like having false nails. Veneers are paper-thin shells of tooth-coloured material that are made to fit right over the front of your tooth to change and improve the shape and colour of your teeth.

Dental veneers can be made from either porcelain or a composite resin material. Porcelain veneers are more resistant to stains than composite veneers, although composite veneers are thinner. Our dentists will talk with you to determine which type of veneer is best suited to your needs and will give you the results you want.

The application of veneers is quite simple and generally takes place over two or three appointments. The first appointment is to assess your options and plan your treatment. The second part of the procedure involves buffing the surface of the tooth or teeth to allow the veneer to firmly adhere to the tooth. The buffing involves removing a tiny thickness from the tooth to allow for the addition of the veneer. This is the one part of the procedure that may involve a small amount of local anesthetic. Again, our Geelong dentists will discuss the need for any anesthetic well beforehand. If we are using composite veneers the procedure can generally be carried out at the one appointment. The veneer is applied to the prepared tooth and carefully sculpted and smoothed to create the desired appearance. For porcelain veneers, a mold is taken of the teeth, which is then sent to a dental laboratory for the veneers to be made. This may take a few days, after which they are cemented to the tooth and the bond is hardened with a special light beam.

There is nothing special you need to do after your veneers are fitted, other than normal flossing and brushing. In essence, you will just need to get used to a brighter and whiter smile!

Other options for improving the appearance of your teeth include dental bonding, crowns and bridges and teeth whitening. These options might be considered preferable where you have more severely discoloured or damaged teeth.
